The Selection Process

Selection is the physics of energy flowing through an ecosystem. Like electricity flowing through a circuit board.

There are four steps to the selection cycle; Chance, Suitability, Competition, and Choice.

And like switches in a circuit board, they occur in order; the previous one must be turned ‘on’ before the next is engaged.

  1. Chance is a single event occurring; everything begins with chance.
  2. Suitability is two our more chances occurring (and sustaining) simultaneously to create an individual/environment.
  3. Competition is two well suited individuals/environments fighting for the exact same resource.
  4. Choice is the ability to avoid competition and/or the power to create a chance.

Not all life has access to all four switches. In fact, most life can only access the first two switches: Chance and Suitability.
